📝 Abstract
The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 promotes interdisciplinary learning, competency based education, and the holistic development of learners. Achieving these goals depends largely on teachers, whose attitudes influence the adoption and implementation of interdisciplinary teaching practices. This review examines published studies on interdisciplinary teaching, teacher attitudes, teacher readiness, educational reforms under NEP 2020, and attitude scale development in secondary education. The reviewed literature shows that interdisciplinary teaching supports conceptual understanding, critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and the application of knowledge to real life situations. It also indicates that teachers’ awareness, professional readiness, institutional support, and opportunities for professional development influence their willingness to implement interdisciplinary teaching. Studies related to NEP 2020 report generally favourable attitudes towards the policy while also identifying challenges such as inadequate training, limited resources, and difficulties in classroom implementation. The review further shows that several validated attitude scales have been developed for different educational contexts; however, a validated instrument specifically designed to measure secondary school teachers’ attitudes towards interdisciplinary teaching under NEP 2020 was not identified in the reviewed literature. This gap highlights the need for the development of a context specific attitude scale that can support future research and educational practice. The review brings together current evidence on interdisciplinary teaching and teacher attitudes and provides a basis for future studies on attitude measurement in the context of NEP 2020.
