π Abstract
Processed and packaged foods use a wide variety of food additives that enhance their safety, shelf life, flavour, colour, texture and quality. As the demand for processed foods continues to rise, the knowledge of food additives, their purpose, presence, and safety have become an important part of food safety. The present crosssectional study aimed at measuring the awareness and attitudes of consumers regarding food additives, and to examine some factors related to their perception and food related behaviors. A structured questionnaire was used to gather data and statistical analysis of the data was done using appropriate statistical methods, such as correlation analysis. The study gives an overview of consumers' knowledge, attitudes, and awareness towards food additive and emphasizes the need for consumerβs education and easy-to-understand information on the food label. The results could inform where increased awareness can be used to inform food choice and understanding of food safety information.
