๐Ÿ“ Abstract
Artificial intelligence (AI) has become increasingly common in everyday learning, information seeking, and academic activities. Although AI tools can reduce effort and provide quick access to information, frequent dependence on them may encourage users to shift some thinking and problem-solving tasks from their own memory and reasoning to external digital systems. The present study examined the relationship between AI usage and cognitive offloading among 200 respondents. Data were collected through a structured online questionnaire containing demographic questions and Likert-scale statements related to AI usage, emotional dependence, and cognitive or academic offloading. Descriptive statistics were used to summarize participantsโ€™ responses, while cross-tabulation and chisquare tests of independence were applied to examine associations between categorical variables. Pearsonโ€™s correlation coefficient was also used to assess relationships among the major study variables. The findings showed a statistically significant association between AI usage and cognitive-offloading categories. The results suggest that higher levels of AI usage were associated with higher levels of reported cognitive offloading in the study population. The findings highlight the importance of understanding how AI can be used as a learning support while maintaining active thinking, evaluation, and independent problem-solving.
